What is Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique.

How to Get Started

After completing the FREE trial form, all you need to do is show up for one of the scheduled classes that can be found on our website. If this is your first time attending, all you need is athletic wear, you won’t need a Gi, which is the garment worn by those who practice martial arts.

What to Expect

Each class starts with a brief warm-up and stretching followed by technical instruction where Coach Layton Wilcox will teach the class new jiu-jitsu techniques. Toward the end of class, live training beings, which is everyone’s favorite part! Don’t worry, until you feel comfortable training full speed, you can sit out, or work with someone on the techniques you just learned.

Is Jiu-Jitsu Dangerous?

Statistics show that children are much more likely to be injured in sports like basketball, football, skateboarding, riding a bike, cheerleading, etc. Of course, in any sport, injuries happen, but with proper technique, supervision, and instruction from the coach your child has a much greater chance of injury in many other types sports than jiu-jitsu.

“Hearing about all the bullying in schools today, I wanted my two girls to be able to have the confidence to stand strong, and ability to defend themselves if they had too. So, I introduced them to the sport, and they love it!”
